A community focused on uplifting disabled creators within the gaming/streaming industry.

The Spoon Platoon is a disability-focused community that aims to highlight and uplift disabled creators. We aim to especially highlight intersectional BIPOC and queer identities, especially how these interact and affect our experience with disability.

Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q)

What kinds of disabilities make up the spoon platoon?

Our members have a wide array of disabilities and health conditions. Some of them may talk about them at length, and some may not. The Spoon Platoon accepts members who define themselves as disabled or having a disability. This includes visible and invisible disabilities, along with physical and mental disabilities.
For us, neurodiversity can also present as a disability for many people. We accept members regardless of formal diagnosis, as we recognize there are many barriers in place that prevent some from getting a formal diagnosis.

Why "Spoon Platoon"?

Some of our community members came up with the name "Spoon Platoon", due to the association with Spoon Theory - Spoon Theory is a way to explain how those living with chronic illness and disability have limited energy, and also expend more energy on everyday tasks than people without illness and disability. In spoon theory, spoons represent both the physical and mental load required to complete tasks. Read more about spoon theory HERE

Why do you use US/North America Centric Language (Such as BIPOC, etc.)?

Most of our members and community members are from North America, and we are primarily English-language based (though many of our community members may speak other languages!).
North America makes up a vast majority of English-speakers online, and due to the scale and influence they have on internet culture as a whole, it is important to serve our audience. That doesn't mean we'll never use terms from outside of North America, it just means that is where our focus tends to be.

Caberhook

they/them

Hallo! I'm Caber or Caberhook on Twitch. (They/Them) I'm from Canada and mostly stream games, with the rare art stream thrown in.I love games with interesting stories, role playing aspects, and horror. I play all kinds of stuff but overall keep it fun and chill. I love an adventure and high fantasy.I'm kind of the embodiment of contradiction with the Autism, fatigue, and ADHD fighting for control. I gotta balance a fine line of high and low energy, order and chaos, and unobtrusive stimming.I'm growing and learning as I go because for the longest time I was frozen by the need for perfection. So things will change and improve and it's fun to get there!

Petito_Nico

he/him

Hi, I'm Petito_Nico, or just Nico! I'm a variety video game streamer from Scotland. I'm a rainbow dinosaur who likes playing games, making art and... getting easily side-tracked.I play a lot of low energy games, and a lot that are sandboxes or story-based! My favourite genre of game is probably RPGs, and I love cozy games! When I'm not making art or playing video games, I'm probably playing some form of TTRPG (D&D and Call of Cthulhu are my favourites!)I'm also a Quaker and a witch!

TheNyxed

she/her

Hi I'm TheNyxed (Nyx/Nyxed/Alex)! I'm an art streamer from California. I call myself a tradigital artist -- I do both digital art and traditional drawing/painting/mixed media, but these days I mostly take a traditional approach to digital art.I love combining light and dark themes, drawing beautiful ladies adorned in jewelry, and hiding symbolism and easter eggs in all my pieces. Each artwork contains hidden messages for the viewer to discover the longer they look.As a gamer I play Dead by Daylight, RuneScape, and Elden Ring. I suffer from a very rare chronic illness, so supportive disability spaces are super important to me and I am so happy to be part of the SpoonPlatoon!

I also have a black cat named Sombra (Named after Overwatch DPS character Sombra, and it also means shadow in Spanish) who is 3 years old.Fun Fact: I really like birds and learning about them!

My passions and my pets keep me going, and it's not a competition but I like to think I have the coziest wheelchair ever!Everything I make from posts to streams to videos comes from a place of sincerity, softness, and a love for community. I love indie games with all my heart.p.s. my favorite bubble tea drink is mocha milk tea with brown sugar boba! 🧋

Sindradottir

she/they

Hi! My name is Sindra and my Co-Streamer is Saga, my Service Dog! We live in Oregon in the US and we stream variety, cause chaos, and ultimately have fun breaking/testing games for developers while also advocating for accessibility in gaming and streaming. We play anything from RPGs to puzzles, Open World Survival Crafters to job simulators, and everything in between. The more absurd and off the wall that a game is, the more likely it is to grab our attention -- Date Everything anyone? We're here, we're queer, our pain is moderate to severe, and we're going to "live, laugh, light it up" about it. What else can you do when you have spinal degeneration and brain damage? :D

CroakShow
